I must disagree; for starters the Native American that hires the boy and Enrique is an "english speaking American," and treats them very fairly. Also, the mother's nightly employer is very nice to her, is she not?

Also, like someone else mentioned, the Snyders were completely decent people, they were even the ones to drive all the way down to Rosario's home (which I would imagine is very far away from where they live) in the middle of the night to tell her of Carlito's leaving.
Its in the perspective of the immigrants so that's why they're all portrayed that way.
