Good film but...

I have watched this film a few minues ago for the first time, it escaped me when it was released a few years ago. Tto the point: I liked the film. The acting was done rather well. The locations were not that accurate, by this I mean lots and lots of post-WWII buildings/signs/objects but this did not bother me the most.

The worst part was by far the HORRIBLE color grading! It started to hurt my eyes after a few minutes into the film. Everything is colored blue and orange! I understand the whole hype that is going on in Hollywood where every director has to color his film in blue and orange but with this they went WAY over the top!

People might argue with me that the color grading was there to set a "cold" mood, this however cannot be combined with bright orange skin tones! This made the movie rather annoying to watch. If you see it, you can't unsee it.

The year of release can clearly be seen barely an inch above your post, right next to the title of the movie. There it is: 2008.

Kinda ironic then that you had much to say about how poor the visual aspects of the film were. Well, I saw the movie too, and have no desire to "unsee" anything.

The premiere/date of release/dvd are all very different, so that's why I put a few years ago. Not that it was the most essential part of my post anyway.

I don't see why the fact that the color grading bothered me was ironic, the grading was way over the top.

"post-WWII buildings/signs/objects"

Such as?
Got any examples?

Sorry about my silly response above, I clearly misread your original post the first time.

I saw the movie a second time a few days ago, and I do agree with you now: the "cold grading", while it's meant to signify the barrenness of war and the winter season, could have been toned down. Er, rather, "lightened up" a bit!

I saw it in a cinema theatre the first time, and perhaps the colouring didn't appear too dull & grey then, but on DVD, it certainly did.

Again, apologies for my earlier reply.

I saw it in the theatre, the colour was fine.
