Why was he wearing so much makeup in this movie? He looked like a drag queen or something.

I think that it's more than make-up.
He has that Kenny Rodgers/ Burt Reynolds pulled-back-to-the-point-of-looking-like a-broad look.

I didn't even recognize him at first. He looked very strange, and as some have noted, a bit feminine.
