I thought it was darling! Sure, some of the singers really were NOT singers but the acting was fine, the scenery was lovely, and it didn't take itself too seriously. It was a fun movie! And at least the songs flowed well into the story not like the more popular Moulin Rouge!
That last remark was not clever or necessary. BTW it's a line from the show Frasier.
Anyway, this movie was not exactly critically successful. So actually, a lot of people do hate it.
ABBA did not sing in the movie they just did the music. And I never said ABBA was great or that the singers in the movie were the best ever? I just said it was a cute movie and people take it way too seriously and they aught to just sit back at enjoy it.
I think most of the actors could have been played by someone better. It's very camp. This is a movie that should be a guilty pleasure because it's soooooo cheesy. I love camp but this movie is a whole new level for me.
I think there is not nearly enough hate for this movie. What's not to hate about this movie? Hardly anything. It was so awful. Everybody involved in this movie should apologize.
And yet you follow the message board. How very strange. Why don't you try to forget about your terrible experience and follow some films that you may like better. Ingmar Bergen perhaps. The early films of Alfred Hitchcock are very interesting for example
It sucks, because it has all the flaws of a stereotypical chick-flick! A good chick-flick is: clever, charming, interesting with a lot of character. This has ZERO!
I think there are people who look too hard into things like this. It's fun, light hearted and never once took itself too seriously. Were the singers great? Of course not. Where the characters on screen singers? For the most part, NO. They're just people bursting out into song, much as any of us would do in real life if something so ridiculous took us over. Singing abilities aside, this movie had a cast of the most amazing actors, giving the best they could give it according to their own abilities, I loved every one of them in their roles and would not have replaced any one of them for a better singer, because to me, they worked so well TOGETHER.
And come on, give them some credit for A: belting it out on camera (soundtrack was studio recorded, the songs on the film were not) and B: doing it all without computerizing themselves.
And can ANYONE light up a screen like Amanda Seyfried?
Amen to this! I was just watching this movie today and I really like it! Not because it's one of the best movies ever made or the singing is perfect but just because it's fun and light-hearted. People are bagging on a movie that wasn't meant to be a huge deal, if that makes sense. And I agree, I wouldn't have replaced any of the the actors!
