Olivia Wilde isn't funny.

I didn't get the impression that her part was meant to be all that funny, although when Burt said no one has ever put a live dog in his pants, the way Jane said "I hope not" made me laugh. I laughed very loudly when her blouse was ripped off of her in the beginning, but she wasn't responsible for that happening ;)

I don't feel like Olivia needs to be hilarious since she's naturally likable and smart. I bet the director got what he wanted from her character.

It's funny you would post that, because almost every line Olivia Wilde delivers in TIBW is delivered with hysterical deadpan accuracy. Listen to the three lines as Burt explains that Steve Grey put a puppy in his pants. Or the delivery each time she corrects Burt about her name. Or her disappointed description of the "gruel" she served in her apartment. Or her first on-stage stint as "Nicole".
Personally, I thought she was one of my favorite parts of this movie.

Madeline Kahn was funny but not very hot.

She's supposed to be the straight guy... Or girl in this case, not really meant to be funny and not given the material to be so either

1 - who cares? She's gorgeous.
2 - she was the straight man
3 - the best comedy is delivered seriously; how good it is depends more on the writing than the performance if the actor is good

Since Wilde plays the straight woman,she does have some of the funniest lines--like she when she tells the magician she's going to hate him in 60 seconds while being cramped up in booth with swords being rammed through it by the other magician,and anything else she says throughout the film. She wasn't trying to be the funny one, but she did have more than a couple of memorable lines. (I've heard her name before, but didn't know who she was until the credits rolled around.)Also, that lame "women can't be funny if they're hot" is tired and really played out.

Really? I can see if you don't like the movie, but she was great in this.
