Gets beat up?

I know a little about this man and so I've been looking forward to seeing this movie It's not a bad effort for first time writer director I would've liked to see someone more skilled in the craft take this on tho

Spoiler alert

The scene where he gets beat up by the soldier(s). Does anyone have any evidence this actually happened? Or is it your typical liberal guilt developed out of thin air ?
I know a bit about him but have never heard of this before. I'm not sure what purpose this scene served and I feel it detracted from the averagely told story of a brilliant man

Funny I thought the same thing when I saw the movie.

As far as I know there have been no recorded instances of Ramanujam being beaten up or being treated in a rough manner.

I'm afraid it could have been just added to make his suffering seem more prominent and hence stress on his longing to go back home. Cinematic liberties maybe.

Good point
I considered that as the justification for the scene as well

It's like Matt brown went out of his way to bring up race and prejudice it's pretty clear to me he has an agenda

Many scenes were obviously dramatized to make the film watchable.

Real mathematicians are unwatchable.

That scene seems so out of place with the sincerity of the film. Sort of thing that a misguided producer or star would ask to be written in.
