Pretty Depressing/Dull Film
Pretty depressing and dull film don't you think?
*Spoilers below*
Is it because its centered around mathematics that it was so dull?
I guess if you yourself are a mathematician or a historian or of some sort then you may have found this to be compelling, but for me I always found math to be quite dull.
I enjoyed writing, and more creative courses and other means of expression throughout my education.
But back to the movie so he leaves his mom and wife for a few years to get to go to England at one of the top universities in the world. That of course is a great honor in itself especially for someone like him who had no prior education or opportunities and resources. But he seemed pretty isolated and depressed for those few years he was at the British University.
He seemed to just fall deeper and deeper into depression as the movie went on. Experiencing culture shock, racism, even getting a hate crime beat down for not doing anything wrong at all.
His wife seemed to just wait for him with his mom who they both disliked each other.
By the time he returns home he is way too sick with TB to even enjoy his accomplishments or even make love to his wife. Did he even make love to his wife at all? It seemed like he slept on the floor while she got the bed?
Again very depressing movie. Yes he goes down as one of the greatest mathematicians in history, but his personal life seemed to be rather depressing. His wife seemed to get the short end of the stick as well. She never got to remarry or have a life of her own. I don't think she even received any type of compensation from her husband's works and achievements.
What do you guys think?
