I thought the trailer was fantastic and really captures the way I imagined the book to be.
I wonder why the rating for this is so low?
I'm a tad surprised by the trailer, whilst Romola looks every inch the part, I thought Angel's attire in the novel to be rather vulgar, tacky and superfluous; it doesn't seem to be the case from the trailer. In addition, the trailer makes the story feel more romantic than it actually was.
With all that being said, I'm really looking forward to this.
The rating is so low because it was not well received anywhere it seems, but that's usually the case with really great art as this movie is. I think the criticists take this movie far too seriously. If one concentrates on the fabulous cinematography, art direction, music, costumes, interiors and of course the great acting, there is so MUCH to enjoy in this movie that I am going to see it today in cinema for the 4th time. I guess I like it because it is about a woman who makes her dreams come true. She behaves like a spoilt brat but does not do any harm to anyone and actually reacts in a very admirable way at times everybody probably expected she'd be outraged and is a MUCH more likeable woman than seems from certain fragments. She just lives in her own fantasy world but we all have fantasies and dreams. Nothing is really explained here in this movie (like how she really could get so rich) but for me the essence of life is to know how to enjoy it and this movie has enough to enjoy for watching it 50 times.
