Zach and Tori having a boy
Medically speaking, what are the chances the baby will be a dwarf?
shareIf I am correct that Zack has achondroplasia, they have a 50% chance of a child with achondroplasia dwarfism.

You are right about what kind he has. Both zach and Amy have that form.
share50/50 I wonder if your able to find out before birth if your child is going to be a little person or if it's something they wouldn't know until the baby was born.
shareAccording to this article. Dr's are unable to determine dwarfism in utero.

Actually if you read the article, it says not always but often doctors can tell. It's only with proportional dwarfism that they never can. And that is because the babies are born normal and stop growing at a regular rate. The kind zach has, things like larger heads is often seen in scans. If you are going to post proof, may want to read it closer.
If there is signs in utero, but no family history which is not the case here, they often will do amino or other tests to confirm genetic markers,
It will be interesting to see what they have to say about what kind of testing they will or will not do, and what they would "prefer" - of course they are going to say "it doesn't matter as long as he is healthy", but ......
shareThey spoke about it tonight.. And no they didn't say as long as he is healthy. They said that if course like any parent, they would wish their child was born without any deformities. But that they knew the tprisks, and if they were not prepared to raise a child with dwarfism they would not have had kids. I understand both feeling that way. Zach knows the struggles he faced his entire life and what his child would. As much as Tory loves her husband, part of her has got to not want to watch her child go through all zach did.
His kind of dwarfism they should be snake to tell on an ultrasound. Either way they will be good parents.
I worry if Jeremy and Audrey have a baby with it. They have a smaller chance. Amy's kind us dominant do only has yo be inherited from one. Matts type is recessive, meaning both parents have to pass on the gene. Molly, Jacob and Jeremy all have his gene. But their spouse would also have to have it and pass it on. I look at Jeremy and Audrey, and how they live and think, and I doubt they have the maturity to handle a dwarf baby.
For some reason, I have a feeling if Jeremy's wife was told she was going to have a dwarf child, she won't be okay with it.
I wondered the same thing. You would think they could tell by the shortened limbs with an ultrasound, but other poster says they can't do it. Also, I wonder if they could have amneocentecis to see the genetic factors.
