Lawrence's dad is white. So how did he come out mexican?
Both of his parents were white. Was lawrence adopted or is that not his real dad or mom?

Del Toro is Puerto Rican. In the film his mother is Spanish, which explains his somewhat exotic looks.
shareHis mother was a roma, in the film.
Del Toro is puerto rican, but he is european looking enough to play an english part.
Ive seen people in England with darker features, and they were not part gypsy, nor part asian. Hopkins is not the whitest brit Ive seen as well. He has got a decent tan in some of his films, Ive noticed. Zeta-Jones is the most mexican looking actress Ive ever seen and she is 100% welsh, I heard. All these things are relative.
Will we start this all over again????

I thought his mother was Spanish.
I'm going to have to watch again.
She was A Roma of Spanish descent ! Gypsies are nomads from all over The World !
share"Gypsies are nomads from all over The World !"
I thought they emigrated from India, originally. Anyway, they made his mother latino-looking in order to cast del Toro. It's just a convenient construction.
"Naw, I was just using you!"
His mother was either Roma or Sinti, the two main Gypsy clans. Gypsies were originally thought to have originated in Egypt, which is where the term Gypsy is derived from. (They also have a moral code that allows them to steal from others, hence the term gypped.}
In fact, Gypsies originated in India and traveled westward, often intermarrying with the native peoples and adopting their local religions and customs. They truly are a nomadic people. Thus, there is a good chance that his mother could have a large amount of Spanish blood in her if her clan had spent time in the areas of Spain and Portugal, then moved northward to the British isles.
"I'm going to have to watch again."
Isn't that kind of extreme?
Watch again? So, you're a masochist, eh? BTW ... FTD!
shareI read that Benicio Del Toro was raised in Puerto Rico but his ethnic backround is Spanish and Italian.

The answer is simple - because del Toro was hired foe the role of Lawrence.
shareBut Del Toro is Puerto Rican. So how did Lawrence come out Mexican? I mean, unless the OP is retarded, of course.
shareI suspect the OP mistaken not "retarded" as you say. But the answer is still because De Toro was hired for the job.
shareOh, a sarcasm detector. Well, that's a REAL useful invention!
shareFirst of all since when does being "Mexican" preclude being white, so the original post, sorry to say is an idiotic statement.
Secondly as other posters have stated, their mother was rather "exotic" looking, hence the sons' darker looks, all this aside they are still "white".
Actually it worked into the movie pretty well. Ben was fair, more like his father, whereas Lawrence looked more like his mother.
His father didn't want Lawrence around and sent him to America to live with his Aunt because he looked like his mother and - oh yeah - because he might remember that dad was a werewolf and killed her (which he did).
the OP is stupidfor saying "mexican" instead of "Latino" If he meant to ask why he didn't look white or european,
Really, Mr. Politically Correct? Well your use of the term 'retarded' shows a great insensitivity to the mentally handicapped. I recommend whipping yourself.
shareracism, do you even know what it means? ignorant maybe, but nothing in op's post indicated he's racist, i like how 'racist' gets used whenever race/ethnicity is brought into discussion. and don't you mean latino? since technically half of south america weren't conquered by spain and don't speak spanish. just because op wasn't aware benicio del toro is puerto rican calling him mexican was still a good guess since the majority of this 'hispanic' in the us are just mexicans anyway.
shareobviously the character is not "Mexican" the actor might be but the character isn't there is nothing to suggest that, many times they will cast an actor to play other ethnicity, (specially Caucasian people, they get to play everything)
so, not only was the comment completely stupid, the op was saying that the character was mexican based on the actor,
about the spain thing, yeah that's right Latino is better, but, people call them hispanic for some reason...
and about the good guess about mexican, You Know How tiny mexico is next to south america and central America??? is like comparing an orange to a truck, in size,
maybe if you live in Texas or California then yeah I could agree with the "the majority of hispanic in the us are just mexicans anyway"
but, any other city of state, that would not be the case, Miami is full of people that don't come from Mexico...
I'll look down, and whisper no
I think the op subconsciously says mexico because when learning geography growing up mexico sticks in the mind because its always pictured in the map of the united states right below it and it looks big when looking at that section.
"I think I liked it better when I thought Sylar ate brains."
'Hispanic' is a term created by the U.S. government. Nothing else. I go with 'Latino'.
NYC has lots of Puerto Ricans.
Carpe Noctem!
tsdurrrrrrrrr :)
shareo the racism on this board....wow....ok his mom had dark hair in the movie, so did he , use your imaginations people! its a movie ! XD
shareIt's not racism, it's ignorance of the history of the british ilses.
Spanish armada + rocky shores of Ireland = olive complected, dark haired children where usually pale skin and hair are the norm. England is right next door.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball
i think its a beautiful mix myself !

That is actually largely regarded as myth. The so-called "Black Irish" are actually darker (and predate the armada) for the simple reason that it is a reaction of those descended from folk who work in the sun in Ireland which is hit by the gulf stream moreso than much of Great Britain (though Cornwall, Wales, parts of Cumbria and Western Scotland do recieve a lot hence many are more tanned in parts of those regions). Irish are famously dark or fair but this is not because they are descended from different populations (though there have been many immigrants to Ireland like anywhere else).
Benicio Del Toro is of course part Native American (specifically part Taino) and does look it but many seem to only complain when a dark skinned or haired person of said ancestry plays an English person. How come Kevin Costner can? You can see he has Native Ancestry yet he is blond so no-one cares. Likewise many Gaelic people, Slavs and Scandinavians have features (high cheek bones, almond shaped eyes etc) that set them apart from many other European populations and yet they always play English, French German people et cetera. It's a little odd really.
Incidentaly we don't know what the characters full ancestry is but I digress. I live England (though I am a mongrel of Gaelic, Norman, English, Italian, French and Norse) and I wasn't offenced by Del Toro's casting or find him that unlikely. There are many people in England who are quite mixed with Slavs, Gaels etc and many can look how Del Toro looks.
I actually didn't hate his acting in this either unlike some viewers.
"Nothings gonna change my world!"
Because all hispanic people are mexican, right?
Spaniards are European. White. Caucasian.
Central and South Americans were conquered by Spain, converted to Christianity, and taught to speak Spanish. The Spanish sailors, logically, had children with the native americans and thus you have "mestizos"....entire populations of central and south americans that primarily look like the traditional "hispanic"......This makes them hispanic, but they are also not mexican. They are Peruvian, Chilean, Argentinean, etc........
Dumb americans equate hispanics/spanish speakers with mexicans. I am full blooded Spaniard and Italian, 1st generation american. My entire lineage is in Europe. However, I have been confused with a Mexican before due to the ignorance of americans.
You make good points, Caprediem, but Del Toro is a Mestizo as he is of Native ancestry. But yes, ignorant Americans think that all Spanish speakers are Mestizos or all Spanish speakers are just white, when they can be of many different ancestry. Most Spanish people are white, they are a traditionally white ethnic group, though now many are black, yellow and mestizo (due to immigration from the Americas) and they always had some admixture from people such as the Goths.
That said, I have to echo the sentiments of Impotent. Del Toro was fine in this movie and is not that out of place. Not all English people are of only English descent. Not all Welsh people are of completely Welsh descent.
If you love Jesus 100%... keep it to yourselves, perverts!
Spaniards are white? That's news to me. I always thought they look mor like arabs, gypsys or something, like Banderas or Nadal.
shareSpainards being white is news to you? I think it's pretty much known and recognized by most that the Spainards are white Europeans. There are those in Spain who have Arab blood-lines, which still doesn't make them non-white. The origins of the white race are the original inhabitants of Europe, The Middle East and North Africa.
And by the way, not ALL Spaniards look exactly like Banderas or Nadal. Many have fair skin, hair and eyes as well.
"Life IS pain highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something".
Banderas is fair skinned actually, watch his films from the 80s. And just because he can tan it doesn't mean he isn't fair to begin with. Look at Pacino in TGG and compare him to hos tan in Scarface.
shareAnd what about Portuguese, Italians, and Greeks?
Why are Spaniards suddenly not white anymore to you specifically?
Val Kilmer is also 1/4 Native and Rose Leslie (the red head from GOT and Downton Abbey is part Mexican as well.
shareI think his mother was gypsy while his father was white and English, that is my guess.
