bought a house

in cash...right across from the rival drug dealer that tried to kill his friends?

Yeah, seems legit.

I can tell you first hand it is not easy to go out and buy up houses and cars with cash these days, back in the day I needed to set up a deal with a car dealer so that in order for me to full out title a ride as mine I had to pay them the full amount and have it notarized, then they put it through in three transactions on different days each slightly under $10,000 for a "fee" of course.

Now for a house, I'm sure there are similar ways to outright buy it, but if the IRS ever gets a whiff of it or things like the car thing I mentioned above they will want proof of income for every dime on paper and if it's not provided they have worse penalties than the DEA.

Moral of the story is to never outright own anything from ill gotten gains, lease and finance everything unless you're retiring, I had to learn the hard way early and it sucks seeing things get seized. Back in the day everyone used to have a lien holder listed on the title so the DEA couldn't take it, well in 2003 my wife at the time got her car seized anyway, they changed the law apparently, now if it's fully payed for and involved in a drug transaction or connected to a case it could be in Santa Claus's name and it's still gone.

Yes what that guy said. Apparently if you try to deposit more than 10,000 you have to fill out some form. Hence why drug money can never be deposited in banks in large sums. If the DEA didn't pop them due to that rat, im sure he would have got popped by the FBI or IRS

The kids in this movie were effing retards. You wanna do it right, first off and most importantly, you need trustworthy dependable people who won't get greedy or ambitious, who don't talk, who follow orders, who don't get scared, and who can think on their feet. Not too smart but not dumb basically. Then you get a lawyer and accountant to set up safe deposit boxes (for money laundering and cash payments, cash-only businesses, corporations, even 501(c) non-profits and offshore bank accounts. Mutual funds, hedge funds, stocks (firearms, entertainment, tech and liquor stocks), bonds, etc. to turn all that big bad drug money into depression-proof legal money that doubles every month. You don't need to be Tony Montana; it's worth it even if it's only tens of thousands of dollars. "Lawyers, guns, and money" like Warren Zevon sang about. Basically, if you want to be allowed by the government to be a drug dealer, one way or another you are going to have to pay taxes on it or you will be messed with. Big hint: the killers did much less time than the "kingpin" in this case.
