depressing style
the Illusionst and the Triplets of Belleville look depressing. why does the director need animation to dive into a sea of sorrow? He could just film a dead body and get the same effect.

shareThe Tripletts of Belleville was an awesome film full of humor and endearing characters. Perhaps you should base your opinion less on the looks of the movie and more on the content. An American Tale (also animated) had that same dreary look and managed to convey some pretty positive messages about family and personal strength.

I agree that the style is quite depressing, it's ragged and more photorealistic than what we expect to see in an animated film. That's not necessarily bad, but I don't see why the OP should get trashed for pointing it out (oh wait, it's IMDB forums, silly me).
On the other hand, Secret of Kells looks simple and appealing, which is my preference.
