Title should be changed...

At least in the English countries (USA, Canada, AUS, etc). Because there is another, well-known film that came out in 2006 called The Illusionist, AND was about a magician too.

Don't get me wrong, this film looks amazing. But it's just that the 2006 film deserves its title since it was a quite good film. How about "The Magician"? No American films are called that.

reply

Agreed. I saw the title of the film and I was pretty pissed off...

reply

i agree. at first when i saw this movie i though they are already remaking it?

INCEPTION IS THE BEST MOVIE OF 2010!!!!!

reply

it should be able to keep the title. this is obviously a different project (they won't even be placed in the same categories/shelves, considering one is animated), the movies are years apart from one another, and movies sharing a title is nothing new.

reply

Theythink they are being arty by givingit tht title. That said, Nearly all of Micheal Bay's movies share a title with somthing else (The Unborn, Badboys, ect)

reply

No problem, just think of the heap of movies that came out in the last year that were called "9".

The film was based on a script for an unproduced Jacques Tati film, with that name. The name shouldn't have been changed, if only out of respect for the great French filmmaker.

"If I knew the way, I would take you home" ("Ripple")

reply

I completely agree with you. Tati is an unforgettable talent, and they were right to keep the title. So what if it shares a title with a previous film? It's not the end of the world. I'm really excited to see this movie by the way!

Please forgive my username...I made it when I was 11.

reply

uh actually it will be the cause of the end of the world. The ancient Mayans said that when a movie called the Illusionist is made after a better movie with the same name which was already made earlier than the world will end on December 21, 2012. look it up, it's fact

INCEPTION IS THE BEST MOVIE OF 2010!!!!!

reply

Forgive me, but as you posted this on August 15 of 2010 there's no way you could've gotten a preview of Chomet's film, and therefore you are not fit to judge which of the movies is better.

Oh, and l'Illusionniste (2010) was WAY better than The Illusionist (2006).

reply

thaaaats dumb. We shouldnt limit the amount of movies that can share a title? The title should complement the content of the film, not the body of work the film industry enjoys, and I would have to disagree with the guy who said they were trying to be "arty"....?? what??

reply

How about you watch the movie and see why it can't be called the f_cking Magician.

They could have stuck with the French title, "L'illusionniste". I think most people have got enough French to cope with that. But then again, I think most people can also cope with two films called "The Illusionist". It's really not difficult to tell the difference.

The Illusionist is definitely an appropriate title for this film.
