The King and the Mockingbird.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

There are torrents with english subs on the internet. Although I'd love to see an official release of this movie in DVD with subtitles.

There are videos of it with English subs, just look up "Le Roi et l'oiseau (1980) part 1/9 (English subs)".

My recommendation:

Don't see this bloody awful film. You'll be crying when you go to sleep that night, simply because you will realize that you wasted the 90 minutes or so that could have been better spent doing *anything* else... like washing the cat.

Are you referring to the Illusionist? I'm sorry you felt that way; care to explain more?

Here's an interesting (but bizarre!) French animated movie, done using paper animation:

"The Triplets Of Belleville"

Absolutely. I know it may seem obvious (even though it has a rather different tone to "L'Illusionniste"), but to anyone on this board who hasn't seen Les Triplettes ("Belleville Rendez-Vous") yet: you really should ASAP - you owe it to yourself.

In a similar vein, I would hope that this film will encourage people to dig out Tati's original live-action films. I've a friend who I half-bullied into going to a screening of "Mon Oncle", and he's now a huge fan. He hasn't managed to see "L'Illusionniste" yet, but we're planning to rectify that soon...

Tokyo Godfathers (2003)
not that similar to the illusionist but well worth checking out
