is it just me or is the ending a blatant ripoff of before sunset's ending?

the whole "you know you'll miss your plane" thing? Similar but I wouldn't say it's a rip off, just a natural result of the circumstances. Loved both movies though :)
shareIf Broken Ending didn't have the same exact two lines to end the film, I would've let it go. However, it was the exact same lines. I'd say it's pretty much a rip. Good movie nonetheless.
btw, I thought Before Sunset is a masterpiece.
Yeah. I thought the same thing. I even mentioned it in my review at www.IndieCliche.com. I'm willing to let the similarity slide though, since I think it's really well done in this film as well. Nora's willingness to miss her plane and be spontaneous is a perfect way to indicate the results of her self-discovery in Paris.

shareYeah. That was what immediatly came to mind when i saw it. However, in Broken English it is definitly clear that she is staying, whereas in Before Sunset its more ambiguous. And, of course, as with everyone, I loved both movies. =)

Uggh, When I heard the last two lines I was stunned. I really like "Before sunset" and the last scene in the movie is perfect.
In Broken English I was waiting for one more definitive scene...Then Boom! wtf!!!
The movie itself is full of cliches and the action is sitcom-ish, but it was watchable and had its moments. However when i heard the last line i literally felt violated.
Has Zoe C ever commented on it? I'm sure she must be embarrased.

Couldn't agree more. I was liking it (and actually think it would have been kind of neat if she would have not found him and just realized it's possible to be happy and keep looking for love - her meeting with the guy in the bar where he later said he wouldn't forget her was kind of perfect) and actually think the circumstances of the ending are fine, but the fact that the exchange is almost identical leaves a sour taste.
If Before Sunset were some classic it was tipping its hat to, that'd be one thing, but this is just a case of ripping off an ending.
I agree that it would have been cool if she "found herself" without finding Julien, and I also agree that the movie was somewhat sitcomish, but the truth is I've had some of those cliches happen to me, life is actually like that sometimes.
I really enjoyed every single character in the film, especially Posey as Nora.
As for the "miss the plane" phrase, I enjoyed both Before Sunrise and Sunset but did not think either one of them were exactly influential, ground-breaking films--the similarity occurred to me but not enough to leave a sour taste...as I said, these things can and do happen in real life, not just movies, IMHO Before Sunset does not have some sort of copyright to that line.
Um, it's called an homage. I wasn't necessarily the biggest fan of the tribute, or of the ending on its own, but ZC surely did it on purpose. I'm sure she's not embarrassed.
shareMy first thought about that was "huh, that's the same thing they said in "Before Sunset."" But then I thought about it and I was like...the circumstances are sort of the same and you just know that neither one of them, not Jesse and not Nora, get on their plane for home.
