Was this set for release a few years ago?

I could be wrong but I heard some people saying this was filmed in 2008. Which means it was probably originally supposed to be released sometime in 2009 or 10. Perhaps the studio wasn't satisfied with what they saw and then just held on to the film waiting for a certain time to dump it into theaters.

It wasn't that Dreamworks didn't like this movie. It was shelved because they were splitting from Paramount shortly after filming, until they released it in 2012.They did reshoots in 2011, which explains why Eddie looks slightly older in some scenes.
