The magi/wisemen

How ironic and sad that though Jesus was to be a light to the nations/Gentiles, God's revelation to the magi/wisemen that they were not to return to Herod (Matthew 2:12) was omitted, regrettably replaced by Balthazar's mere intuition. There are no legitimate reasons for the various departures from God's Word in this movie, merely a fulfillment of John 3's description of how men prefer their darkness to God's light lest our evil deeds be exposed/rebuked. God save us all in that regard.

I didn't know they came from Persia, I always wondered about their country of departure. Of course in the bible they came 6 days after Jesus was born, versus the day of his birth.

I was a good deal more annoyed by the presumption that there were three of them, along with the names taken from a 4th century legend which is not part of the story. The story never even says how many. People assume three because three gifts were delivered. That isn't stated nor implied. Names were certainly not given. Balthazar isn't in the bible. The trivia bit on the main page is irrelevant for this reason -- it says "the bible doesn't indicate which one gave which gift". Duh. It doesn't even enumerate them in the first place, so how is it even relevant to mention that it doesn't say "which one"?
