How did Hani do it?

Just watched this, one question stuck out.

So Hani had a mole in Al-Saleem's camp for at least the final half of the movie, does he ever explain how he got him there? The terrorists basically fell of the face of the earth after fleeing the safe house.

And there was a clip of a guy being beaten with a cricket bat, played at important moments, I don't get the significance that clip...is that Roger at some point in his past?

He first saw the guy in a picture that Ferris showed him on their first meeting. Later when he took Ferris to the desert to let him watch as he talk to the guy (Karami). He said he knew him since he was a kid, etc. They gave the guy's mom a new house, money, expensive TV's etc, and told her it was from her son. He had him from that point on. Also he when Ferris asked what if he doesn't do what you want? Hani responds with something like because I will remind him that I have the power of life and death over him, anytime I want I can let them (jihadists) know he works for me.

As far as the clips with the bat, in the movie it really didn't make sense, but in the book there is a part early on where Ferris helps in the torture and interrogation of a guy and that guy dies, it affected him mentally from then on

Thanks. That was another scene I didn't fully get the significance of.

I think the bat scene is something that is haunting him.

When he is thinking about it as they are about to kill him on the table, I thought it was kind of saying "live by the sword, die by the sword". Leonardo was involved in the torture and killing of people and now he is in the same situation.

That is my take anyway....
