What was Dicaprio's...?

salary for this film?

For most of his films after "Titanic", he received a salary of $20M, but I'm assuming he took a pay cut for this film because the budget was $70M and it was a risky project and didn't end up being very successful.

It made $115,000,000 worldwide according to this site

Hardly a failure!

exactly...it's budget was $70M; and with the actors attached, the studio was expecting better reviews and better box office.

But you didn't answer my question about Dicaprio's salary.

Just thinking about how much these people make takes all the fun out of movies for me. People actually watch because of who's in these movies? I'm all for getting paid and a fair market, but the amounts they are paid makes me respect pirating. I'd rather watch someone who I can empathize with and vice versa. It's why scientology makes sense to them. It's a whole different reality. Millions. For "pretending".

Rant over. Sorry.

I'd have to agree. Actors aren't doing much for society than say scientists or doctors. And yet they get paid like 100X more.

I also think writers get ripped off.

And what is that mean? It's not fair? It is fair. You want to have Dicaprio or Depp in your film? Pay them! Cause they are going to work so hard that will make your head spin.

I'm saying their salaries are entirely off the scale in relation to everyone else. Other staff, especially writers work just as hard as actors when they make a movie, if not more so. But they get paid only a fraction of actor's salary. Not to mention actors have access all sorts of amenities like personal assistants, masseuse, stunt doubles, their own trailers, etc.

Plus the entire movie industries's role is just to provide light entertainment. Where as scientists can make discoveries to better our technology and standard of living and doctors work everyday to save lives. Yet they get paid so much less! That's what making my head spin.

Welcome to the world. That's the way it is in our messed up system. Don't forget rockstars and athletes as well. In contrast we pay teachers, police, firefighters and many others very poorly in relation to their contributions to society. Pretty sad, really.

Not to mention the fact that actors bring in a huge amount of money by drawing fans to go see the movie. They only end up getting a small percent of the huge profit they helped to produce.

reply

Athletes are 10x more overpaid than actors.
