My only complaint about this show

I just started watching this show on Netflix, and I'm currently on the first season. I really like it so far, but there's one thing that bothers me. They keep saying how Jason and Lyla were "supposed to get married", as if it's impossible for them to marry now that Jason is in a wheelchair. People in wheelchairs marry able-bodied people all the time; it shouldn't have derailed their plans.

Them not getting married had more to do than him just getting paralyzed

The getting married part was all part of a plan that is now undoable now that he is paralyzed. The plan included Street going off to a top ranked football school where Lyla may or may not have followed him to, he has a great career there and gets drafted to the NFL at which point they would have gotten married. In a sense the plan was for him to be really successful and for Lyla to never have to work.

Also as much as it is admirable to believe that love would last through all that...this was a high school love not a marriage even.

Lyla wanted kids and he couldn't promise that. She also cheated on him out of a need for sexual release which she could not have with her boyfriend. Those are usually needed in a relationship for most people. It's tragic but you can't really blame that they didn't end up together on them alone.

There were several reasons they couldn't/shouldn't marry.

It was after he found out she cheated with his best friend. She was also a sophomore the 1st season. The odds were stacked against them for that. wheelchair aside.
