6 episodes in and I can't stand Buddy Garity

The guy is a nuisance. I don't understand his place in the pecking order. Why does he have so much influence? Why can't coach tell him to take a hike?

reply

Give it time. He turns around and becomes kind of likeable.

reply

OK. Thanks.

I was going to write the same thing. Lol he does become less of a nuisance more likeable

Just about every town has someone like Buddy that is usually bigger than his britches. He's a successful town businessman with a crucial link to the Panthers since he is an alum with influence over the boosters.

I think Coach Taylor held him at bay as best he could. Most of the people in this show went out of their way to be nice even when they didn't really feel that way. (Many parts of flyover country see the world around them this same way).

Just because somebody is unaccommodating towards you there's no reason to be rude to them. Be nice even if it is only for "show". Buddy is greatly played by Brad Leland who showed himself as a human being with his own faults and foibles just like the rest of us. There could have been somebody far worse than him in the series.

If there's a way to screw something up, the "O'Commie regime" will find it EVERY SINGLE TIME!! Only 202 more days left!

Buddy Garrity and the boosters fund the team, and Buddy has a personal interest in seeing the Panthers succeed since he was a Panther in his day.

reply

Yeah like everyone has said he does become likable but i had the same feeling as you when the show started. Actually he becomes one of the favorites but ill leave it at that.

He was a star player, back in the day, and a very influential businessman. He contributes directly financially, and indirectly by raising money for the team.

If he bad mouths the coach, people listen. He could shutdown all support, financial and otherwise, for Coach Taylor, at least when Taylor first gets there.

Like several other people have said, he turns out to have a big heart, and is expertly played by Brad Leland.
