Does anyone think this movie looks REALLY dumb?
Anyone agree??

The trailer makes it look like a routine romantic comedy with, maybe, a few squirmy moments in it. It's not one of those.
Nope, not at all. I guess you just can't relate to the subject, but I know people like the main character who, for different reasons, are closer to their pets than to another human being. Whether that is unhealthy or not is open for discussion, but my point is that the premise of this movie does not seem dumb.
shareIt looks dumb but it is actually REALLY cute. I liked the message and it has a lot of little funny moments throughout.
shareNo.
You obviously don't understand the close relationship between a human and their dog. A lot of people value pets more than humans. Sometimes I do too.
I know that when I found out that my dog had cancer and was going to die; I really starting getting life into perspective.
My dogs cancer was really the catalyst of the clinical depression I'm going through now.
A lot of people value pets more than humans. Sometimes I do too. This is really an interesting idea for a movie, because so many people have this in their lives. (Why else would there be so many PetCo's and Petsmarts, etc.?) Animals are easier to have relationships with than people. (Pets are great--I love animals, and they seem to really like me. With people, sometimes it's not so easy.)
No. I just saw a screening of it at Paramount. It's very well done, touching, funny yet quite sad too. Very realistic. It raises many important issues regarding animals. A must see!
shareRealistic? I must have been watching a different movie...
shareThe movie was barely tolerable, but Molly Shannon is horrific as the lead. ONE HOUR PHOTO by way of P.E.T.A.
shareThe film isn't dumb...the trailer just made it look like a standard rom com.
I was at a Q&A with the director/writer/co-producer Mike White, and even he wasn't sure of what kind of trailer would be suitable for this film. He ultimately felt that his movie probably doesn't lend itself to a trailer. Could be true...
(SPOILER)
...after all, what if the marketing for "Year of the Dog" mentioned the protagonist was involved with PETA.
It's 81% fresh at rottentomatoes.com and the Times gave it a good review, so I'm looking forward to seeing this film. It definitely looks like it could transcend the genre of romantic comedies (which I'm not a fan of).
