2 questions about this movie (both centered around Peggy's babysitting)

1. What was the significance of Peggy finding her holiday greeting card in the mail basket besides the fridge at her brother's house?

2. What happened to those furs? Did she turn the faucet on full blast in a drunken stupor to ruin them? Or was the faucet leaking and it filled up with water overnight? Did Peggy ever get them repaired for her sister-in-law (who had every right to be pissed)?

1. She's looking at the display of cards they have up on the fridge/memo board thing and they're all pictures of families. There are clearly dozens of photos of families that can't possibly be as closely related as her yet the picture of her and Pencil is left out, presumably because Pier was embarassed by his sister's significant other being a canine. Or, I think you could just look at it that he didn't want to upset her or his daughter by putting up the picture of her recently deceased pet. New Year's tends to be a really melancholy holiday in terms of looking back at our unsatisfying relationships or loved ones lost throughout the year.

2. I think she must have turned the water on full because I have a drippy tub and even if I leave it plugged, it never gets more than a puddle in it. She didn't seem to remember it come morning, just as I still don't know how I got back from that bar in Austin without my shoes. ;) I'm not sure it would have ruined the furs at all; I think maybe they were just sopping wet so she hid them and had them cleaned/returned after she recovered. Fur as far as I know won't be ruined by getting wet.

1. IMO, not only did Peter & his wife think it was embarrassing they thought it was ridiculous. Their tone was always mildly condescending towards Peggy and their laughter over naming the farm animals after people shows that they thought the whole thing was ridiculous.

From Peggy's perspectives the way the brother in law and his wife are raising their kids is obsessive and from their perspective Peggy's devotion to animals is obsessive. The beauty of this movie is that we can see both sides of this.

"I'm aroused and confused."

1) The parents already had a stroke when Peggy told her niece that Pencil died...so I assume that they didn't want to put the picture up so they wouldn't have to answer any questions from their daughter!

2) I don't think they show it but she turned the water on....it's just part of the drunken night she had that she doesn't even remember what she did!
