Personal responsibility VS blaming others (Spoilers)

It was Molly's character's fault that Pencil died.

I'm an animal lover, and I have a lot of pets. In my opinion, it is the pet owner's responsibility to keep a pet safe and out of harm's way.

My three mutt dogs are either in my securely fenced yard, on a leash, or in the house. They never have an opportunity to eat slug bait in a neighbor's garage.

You can't expect the world to be a safe place for your pet. You have to keep the pet in its own safe world that you control.

If a tornado blew down my fence, and my dogs got out and ate slug bait, that would be a very sad. But, it would be a terrible accident, but still not the neighbor's fault.

As Stuart Smalley said: (Al Franken on SNL)

“It's easier to put on slippers than to carpet the whole world.”

Obviously it was her fault. The dog should have been fenced in. She didn't initially hold her neighbor responsible. But when she did it was one of the many scenes meant to reflect her emotional decline.

"I'm aroused and confused."

That was one of many mistakes she made, the one that started the whole ball rolling. She was clueless about her own employer and about the nature of keeping pets. Keeping pets involves a lot of complicated issues, none of which she was able to address wisely. Sadly, as she tried to be ethical about not eating animals, she lacked awareness and compassion and became so self-righteous and judgmental and started to do many bad things like not respecting her friends' family home and children, stealing from her boss, entering her neighbour's property uninvited, etc, etc. She was a very clueless person.

Valuing animals highly is not bad, but she devalued everything else and had no wisdom. The scene with all the dogs was funny, but it started to become unrealistic that anyone could be *that* clueless.

I agree with you!

One thing I didn't like was, like you said, when she was "self-righteous and judgmental" because she was a vegan. The funny thing is that I don't eat animals, and I haven't for 30 years. But, it's my own personal choice and I don't tell other people what to do.

I have a LOT of pets. Besides my 3 dogs, I have: 2 parrots, 2 cockatiels, 16 parakeets, 1 lovebird, 2 bunnies, 2 turtles, and about 45 goldfish in the fishpond my hubby built for me. My pets are a big part of my life. (I have pictures and stories in my blog....)

It's sad, but it's true. When something bad happens, you want to blame somebody else ..... it's too painful to believe that we would do something that ended up harming our pets. But, like you said, ultimately, it's our own responsibility to keep them safe.
