Laura Dern

Who else wanted to smack Laura Dern's character up the side of the head? Lots of people accused Molly Shannon's character of being crazy in this film, but if anyone's crazy its Laura Dern's character. She was beyond overprotective of her children to the point of madness. "I'll call you every hour". Jeez.

"And this baby's made of chocolate lollipops."

YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS! What a smug, self-righteous, condescending see-you-next-Tuesday she was!

"Stwike him, Centuwion ... vewy Wuffwy!"

Yes which means she did a brilliant acting job! She was the funniest character in the whole movie, imo. Haven't we all met people just like her?

You obviously do not know that Laura Dern is a goddess.

Seriously amazing acting. I'm surprised she wasn't more noticed for this film. Her little hushed stories were brilliant.

i hope you choke on your bacardi & coke!

Yes, it was amazing acting. I really like Laura, and the fact that I just wanted to hose her down or teach her kids to be the total opposite of that "Brave New World Gamma-plastic-smiling attitude" proves that. Like it was said, haven't we all met hypocrites like that who think that raising a family devoid of real world exposure with constant censoring is the best way to do so? Every time she was on screen, I kept forgetting I was watching a movie and wanted to just do something to push her over the edge, to see what would it take for her to crack and stop talking in such a condescending tone. Friggin' Oscar-nomination-worthy for that if you ask me! Argh! (I end up laughing at myself for diving so deep into it)

And what the movie would've been then. Molly ends up being okay -- but she still has that "SNL" thing that somehow keeps them from being really convincing actors. Just don't quite buy her.

I can't believe Dern (or her agents) didn't fight for the lead. She is a real actor and this movie needed that. The female equivalent to Saarsgard, who is amazing here as I wrote in another thread.

Still a good film, the Mike White brilliant touch... but not what it could've been.
