I just saw this series for the first time on Netflix this summer and at the end of the pilot episode, there is a story on a news broadcast about a teen girl who had been discovered in the woods similar to the way Kyle had been. Was this ever intended to be a major plot point that was ultimately changed or what? It seems strange for such a seemingly significant piece of plot development to come to nothing.

The news story was a red-hering planted by the writers to get the viewers to think there were other kids like Kyle wandering around.

I had the same question as you. When Jessi was introduced, I was like, 'Isn't she already out of the pod?' Personally, I think this would've been a stronger story line and tied in better. Plus it would've been good if there had been more kids like Kyle, only a few, but still not as 'special' to make him seem more 'special'. This could've extended the seasons this way, by bringing out a character at a time and having them interact with the other characters.
