Did anyone else feel bad for Declan

In the beginning when Kyle revealed his secret to Declan and then swore him to secrecy did anyone else feel bad for him b/c that pretty much screwed everything for him. I mean he was in a reasonably happy relationship with Lori and then b/c of the secret he was keeping he was always lying to her and keeping things from her. Then Foss threaten's Lori to keep Declan quiet, and then when he Kyle and Foss are breaking in to steal that information or whatever it is Declan gets injured. So basically b/c of this secret that he has to keep he basically freezes everybody out and lies to people he cares about. Then when Jessi shows up right when he's trying to fix things with Lori he gets confused and drawn into even more deception and danger. But even through all that he kept the secret despite what it was doing to his life b/c that is the kind of person he was but I still felt bad for him.

I think Declan comes across as the only reasonably sensible teenager in the show. The rest of them act as if they still haven't reached puberty.

Do all teenagers in the US allow their parents to control them the way the Tragers do or Amanda's mother does? The Tragers are liberal parents one minute and 19th century parents at other times.

I think Declan was more grown up than the others due to the lack of a presence of any parental figures. You never saw either of his parents so he was alone and forced to take care of himself and so it seemed like he grew up faster. Having to keep Kyle's secret and his relationship with the Trager's was the only time you saw him more vulnerable b/c otherwise he seemed to hide behind walls. I agree that he is definitely the most sensible of the bunch even including Kyle who despite his intelligence sometimes seemed to make some pretty dumb decisions and Declan was always there to back him up.
