The OC meets Sci-Fi

The concept of this show always seemed a bit like The OC with a Sci-Fi twist.

- Nicole is the female version of Sandy Cohen taking in a troubled teen that's out of his element. Stephen is like Kirsten at first being skeptical and then eventually coming to love Kyle as much as Nicole.

- Kyle like Ryan has qualities that make him stand out and hold his own. He also becomes a beloved member of the family eventually.

- Kyle becomes best friends with Josh aka Seth. Josh like Seth is kind of a geek and uses humor to deflect. Kyle/Josh have similar banter that Ryan/Seth do.

- Amanda is like Marissa being the girl next door that's a bit troubled with a bi*ch mom who wants her to stay away from the new kid. Plus, you've got the a-hole boyfriend Charlie aka Luke that sneaks around and is a temporary roadblock.

Granted it's not an exact duplicate as Kyle XY is also a sci-fi show. But definite similarities.

The two shows also use a lot of the same music. And Kyle XY has a character named Michael Cassidy while the OC has an actor named Michael Cassidy (for a bit). I'm glad you pointed this out, because I've thought the same thing for a while! A weird number of similarities, particularly in the first few episodes.
