i had just seen a family guy christmas episode and it struck me how really stark in colour this is, there is something magic about these old time cartoons, this was a real treat of a holiday watch, i wish they removed the laugh track on these old flintstones cartoons though, what great lines for a cartoon at the start of this, and can you believe the snobby lady had been waiting half an hour for fred's gift wrapping. man, check out the flintstones forks and knifes, that is rugged, notice one kid in the mall look like his head is turned around. it was strange the opening of this episode was a clip from something taking place later on. this episode can be found as bonus material on the "a flintstones christmas carol" dvd, i had already seen that last year or so, but i flipped through it just to compare, and the colours on the old tv episode are way cooler and stronger, the tv movie made three decades later, seem to have suffered from the re occurring phenomena of a series growing vision like sharper, corny with lazy cheap jokes, remember how cool garfield the cat once was before with each version getting more polished?, not to mention the deterioration of the sitcom "married with children", but goodness there seem to be many flintstones christmas bits, i wish they would have put more on the flintstones christmas carol dvd, but i would advice you to check this 1964 episode out, it really is something else.

you came by in winter wonderland,
as kids slide snowy hills in sleds,
your wonderbody filled out a dress,
and i wasn't ready for it,
with your two giant hills on top,
from there my reality fall,
down your wild terrain of curves trying to hold on,
but they just keep comin as my attempts you knock off,
i fell down steep crashed at your high heels in the snow.

well it's that time of year again, merry christmas, time to re watch this, i can't believe some of the dialogue in this 1960s cartoon, like the reply fred gives, barney: - "aren't the store windows beautiful, fred, they're all loaded with gifts", and fred replies bitterly: - "yeah the windows are loaded it's me that isn't...", wow, i've got a feeling that would not pass in a corny modern cartoon, it's quite a change how old cartoons could be enjoyed by both grown ups and kids, and while some of the animation in this looks pretty cheap, especially the snowing, it's much more groovy visually and gives a heavier feeling. i recently saw the 2000 none cartoon movie "flintstones in viva rock vegas" with real actors and it's amazing how well the baldwin brother nails the voice of barney heard here, i didn't realise until recently the barney role was considered a, what's the term you're allowed to use, you know, a short built fella. neat how this contains some traditional christmas tunes instrumental in the background, the real santa claus fred encounters in this looks like the druid in the asterix animated movies from the same time period.

with forms move like a feather,
yet dance me like a leaf in wild weather,
like a puppet without strings,
invisible pull with expertise,
in your eyeshadow got lost,
cant comprehend you explore deep core,
in wind flying with me across globe.
