Aslan's Roar

I just watched the scene where Trumpkin is brought forward, to Aslan. Why did Aslan roar in Trumpkin's face? I've never understood that scene.

This is a powerful scene for any Christian, for it is a reminder that we are not to forget or deny God's existence.

Aslan is a metaphor for God, and there are many, many references throughout the Narnian chronicles to tenets of Christianity, and God. Aslan was disappointed that Trumpkin denied he even existed. Aslan created Narnia, and many of the Narnians began to think he didn't exist (they had 'lost their faith' so to speak). Aslan's roar was a terrifying, and somewhat heart breaking reminder to Trumpkin and everyone else that he did exist, and would never forget about them the way they had forgotten Him.

Ah! Okay. Now I get it. So it was a rebuke?

reply

Exactly, b/c after the roar, Lucy laughingly remarks to Trumpkin, "Do you see him now?"
