Prince Caspian = How to MANGLE the marketing of a movie.

The "Prince Caspian" Narnia movie was a financial failure. Somebody will tell everybody that the movie studios just don't care if a movie makes any profit from it's DVD & blu-ray sales. If that was true, then they wouldn't bother spending money to try & sell DVD's & blu-rays, because doing so would just make them lose money. Those who made the "Prince Caspian" Narnia have only themselves to blame it being a financial failure, because they totally MANGLED the marketing of it. They made Prince Caspian the only MAIN character of the movie on the poster & the DVD/blu-ray box art. The other characters are the true major characters of the Narnia movies, & the poster/box art SHOULD have acknowledged that.

The other Narnia movies (#3 & afterwards) are similarly financial failures, but for at least one other reason. The series' 2 major actresses (Georgie Henley & Anna Popplewell) are the ONLY reasons that me & others like the first 2 movies at ALL, but the other movies almost total dropping of Anna Popplewell has me & others dropping them.

I happen to be a huge Ben Barnes fan and my only interest in the Narnia film series was because he is in the second and third movies. I have never read the books and most likely never will. I don't even own The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe because Ben Barnes isn't in it. I have seen it of course, but I didn't bother to buy it. I like the Pervensie characters and think the actors are all talented but it is Ben Barnes that does it for me. So, I was thrilled with the angle they took with the marketing of the film, and of course, I love the film, as well as the Dawn Treader. I've only seen the first film once.

For REALS. The only reason why I even watched this movie & not bothered to watch the others (pre & post) is because of Ben Barnes. That's it.

& the Lion. Because the Lion is sexxier than Ben Barnes. Ya'll can't deny that.

The "Prince Caspian" Narnia movie was a financial failure

Was it?
The impression I got was that it covered its (rather high) production costs from its US box office returns with a small profit left over.
The trouble was that some people at Walden were assuming that it was going to make as much as the original film while Disney were a bit more worried about how much was being spent on the production.
When it "underperformed" there was a falling out between Walden and Disney.

IMDb states a worldwide gross of $400 million against a budget of §225 mill. I don't know how many peeps get a slice of that, but movies that grossed (worldwide) three times their budget have been pronounced failures for the investors.
Another factor is how long it takes for the money to come in.
All in all, it can be said that the movie did good enough to get support for another installment of the series to be made.

I did not save the boy, God did. I only CARRIED him.
