Could someone tell me what was wrong...

...without using the phrase, "They changed so much from the book," or variants thereof?

I only read the first book and saw this movie without a basis of comparison. I thought this movie was just fine. I don't understand why the critics tanked this movie or why the box office was so poor.

The film felt dis-jointed and uneven. Not sure why this was, whether it was the way the film was adapted and its not because of departure from the source novel or the way it was directed.

I think the books are not easy to adapt.

Its that man again!!

I still dont get it. And I did read the book.

The movie just turns the story darker and more mature and its a huge difference with the first movie.
Narnie books are way childish. But thats not a reason for people disliking this movie at all. No one has read the book anywayz.

The movie has everything to be a huge success. But people find it boring, thats what I have seen.
"Long and boring" they say.
Hum.

To me, the movie is fantastic.

Do you recognize my voice...?

Three of the four main leads... especially the one who played Peter. Not a single thing to like about any of them. Charisma free bordering on the thouroughly dislikable... for me anyway...

reply

What they did to Peter in this movie is what I felt was wrong...

He was a such a Jerk! He was arrogant, full of himself, wouldn't listen, got a bunch of his army killed and didn't even care. That is what made this movie not as good in my opinion

reply

I would say by what I saw was that he DID care a lot!
Hence the `blowing up` at Caspian afterwards since it was Caspian `doing his own thing` and not opening the gate earlier like he was supposed to that caused the plan to fail!
Consider the pressure the situation as presented puts him under.
Everybody around him is expecting him to somehow create an army from nothing in a short period of time and lead it to victory when he has next to nothing to work with.
When people say "he wouldn`t listen" they are I`m afraid wrong.
He DID listen to the various proposals put forward then made a decision, as High King that`s his JOB!

I thought it was alright, better than, say, Eragon, but:
- Waaaay too long; could have been cut down a lot.
- Feels disjointed.
- Prince Caspian (the character) is bland.
- Random bit with the White Witch wasn't explained, I had no idea why she was there.
- The whole sense of wonder and magic from the first film wasn't there as much, apart from a few bits at the beginning.

I watched the movies and have recently started reading the books. I honestly think that the first two films did a better job of telling a good story than the books. In the books there is often a problem and the characters are all "Oh bother, what are we going to do now?" ..only to have said problem solved easily in the next chapter. The films have elaborated on things and made them a lot more interesting.

I actually found certain things about the characters in this movie more realistic than the book--in the movie Peter is an arrogant jerk, in the book, not so much. I think someone who had lived as a "high king" for over a decade and in the lap of luxury only to be demoted to a teenaged nobody in 1940s England WOULD act like a jerk.

The dialogue was also a lot better. As much as the story is good, the character development in the book (I know I'll get flack for this) is kind of...flat. I know the Narnia books are classic but I rarely ever felt what they were feeling. I must say that the Narnia books are actually a trifle boring, but I found the first two films exciting and interesting.

However I do think the addition of the "romance" between Susan and Caspian a bit pointless. For some reason movie makers think that any time there is a teenaged boy and teenaged girl character they MUST put in romance. It's quite annoying.

The fight scene went on WAY too long. I don't think I've ever looked at my watch so much during a movie. By the time it was over, I didn't even know who I was rooting for anymore, I just wanted it to END.
