when joaquin jumps out the window and lands right on his back on top of the fence, how was he not seriously hurt? i'm sure it hurt like a mf, but he was pretty much fine afterwards. wouldn't that paralyze you or break your spine, or cause internal damage to your organs? ouch.
shareIt may, but it also depends on exactly where you fell and how hard you actually landed. The dispatcher did mention "possible" neck injuries and broken ribs, so he did not get away "hurt free".

Yeah, that was a pretty big fall. I'd think you'd break your spine or something. But what do I know, I'm not a doctor.
shareThere isn't a hard and fast rulebook as to what happens to every accident every time. It does depend on how you fall, where you hit, etc. Two people can fall from the same height, the same velocity, and hit differently and have different injuries. So that wasn't a mistake in any way, he did have a broken leg, I believe, and other injuries, he was pretty banged up, but it could have been worse as well.

Yeah and plus when the film flash forwards a few months when his brother is getting out of the hospital he still has an obvious limp and they ask about his leg so he definetly was seriously injured from the fall.

shareIf it was a block wall that he landed on, then he'd have been badly busted up. It was chain link and loose, at that. It would have had some spring in it. As Bemore noted, he broke his leg, and had other possible injuries.

He actually hit the fence with the back of his thighs. This slowed his fall.

You make a good point. But from time to time we have seen people jump out of airplanes, experience a parachute malfunction and come away with limited injuires. Still, statistically speaking, this guy should have been cut in half by that fence.
shareExcept that he didn't hit the fence with his back. He caught it with his legs just above the back of the knees. If it had been a block wall, Then he's had landed from there onto his head. The chain link fence had a lot of spring in it. It broke the fall. It looked very believable.

Besides, if I'm not mistaken, they were only a few floors up, no way the fence would have tore threw him. It was still a rough fall, and he was hurt, but like has already been stated, depending how he hit, it's more than reasonable to assume his injuries were appropriately serious, especially since it is a movie, I'm just thankful he didn't stand up and brush himself off, like we see all too often.
