The Movie is not as exciting or as interesting as "The Godfather," because the Godfather is multi-layered, and follows a journey of years in the life of these people, While" We own the night," is more straight forward a story and doesn't have the same level of detail and accuracy.
Still the Godfather overtones are clear, including a Son who is moved to action by an assault on his Father's life.
