Character motivations doing a 180?

SPOILIERS............................

One of the things that didn't make sense to me was the utter flip flopping of Stuart (Roger Bart) and Todd (Burgi) It made no sense.

Stuart was scared and nervous and really wasn't sure he wanted to do this anymore. He unties Beth and it almost looks like they are going to try and escape together, next thing you know he's trying to kill her and savagley.

Meanwhile Todd, all cocky and cocksure freaks out at his first attempt at torture, turns total chicken and runs away, to get mauled to death by dogs. So he finally developed a conscience?

This sudden turn of events just didn't make sense to me. It was almost like two pages of script got lost or something.

It made sense to me... It's like you being super confident about something super pumped to do it then you get there and suddenly realize it wasnt a good idea. The other guy if you heard the chick who survives (forgot her name) pleads with him, "im not your wife" leaving me to believe he pictured his wife in her position, which makes him flip like that. Something his wife did or was doing caused him to flip

It's actually quite simple to comprehend. Ever hear of the dog with the loudest bark doesn't bite? It's the quiet one that you should be afraid of. That's exactly what you saw as having been a 180, but in actuality, all you saw was a big bully acting all tough and overcompensating for his own insecurities and the other a man whose always been on the receiving end of it and it's built up over the years and he finally explodes and unleashes all the pent up anger, frustration and rage. Quite typical actually.
