What I got from this movie

I thought the movie was beautiful and very powerful. The messages I got from it was.
1. Abortion is bad.
2. Respect your ancestors and do not forget to visit their graves.
3. Respect the environment and dont throw anything that can be recycled in the trash.
4. Dont do something that you will obviously regret later or do something just to spite someone else.
5. Dont be wasteful.

Pang brothers really know how to make a good passionate powerful thought provoking movie. I look forward to seeing more of their films.

Actually, what I got out of this movie is that abortion is bad - only. I didn't get the other things you said, but I really wish they had just made a good horror/Sci-Fi movie without getting so political at the end. That nearly ruined it for me.

I think the OPs points were all there but you are right clubxchild07, abortion was definitely the most prevalent theme of the group.

I didn't get the "abortion is bad" message from this film. I honestly felt as though it was more "pro-choice" than one would suspect.

When a woman chooses not to bring a fetus to term, she has to live with the decision, and the thoughts of "what could have been." This film deals with all that we discard, included lives, and how we do not think twice about it. I think it is important not to put too western of a slant on the story.

It was not abortion that was bad, it was carelessness that was bad.

I agree. Because, it also showed that this had been a difficult decision that had clearly been painful--that she carried the effects of--not that she had cheerfully skipped away untouched and had to be spirit-slapped into remorse. I thought it dealt with this pain, but also didn't demonize.

Plus, the images were broader than that. Although this was a central pain for her, it showed that discarding is a part of life-- inescapable. Every time she rewrites, she abandons; every time she changes her mind or ignores something/someone/some feeling.

I have thought about this and realized that part of the trials she goes through are probably horror movie staples or tropes.
