isn't there going to be an Ocean's 14?

I thought I read somewhere that a sequel was in the works?

True, he would be missed .

It isn't impossible to write a character's death into a sequel.

reply

True! But who would be his replacement?

reply

Leave that up to Weintraub and Co., the brains behind the operation. There is always a way to make it work. I'm sure it could all work out even if we dont know right now this minute who that person would be.

A 12-year old Benjamin Linus just brought me a sandwich. How do you think I'm doing?

reply

Cedric The Entertainer

reply

I haven't investigated this much, but I've read that Matt Damon is up for another sequel, but that George Clooney isn't.. He has said the following when asked about the possibility of another movie: "The door is absolutely without question closed."
It's impossible to make an Ocean's Fourteen without Danny Ocean...

All hail the mighty Quentin Tarantino

reply

So Clooney says: "The door is absolutely without question closed."

....which to me, means that it's slightly open. Don't you think? That's almost a dead givaway!!!

These dudes that work with Weintraub, section 8, Soderbergh, etc.... always have something up their sleeve and like to tell us little lies to remember them by..

So you want a realistic, down to earth show that is off the wall and swarming with magic robots?

reply

Well, I interpret his comment like this: "There is absolutely no chance that it will happen"... But sure, it can be a lie to cover a surprise announcement stating that Ocean's Fourteen is in production...
Personally I don't think there'll be yet another Ocean's film.. But you'll never know, right?

NAZI GOLD and STOLEN ART! But, I understand why they wouldn't make the film, and so does America.

reply

yes

They won't make an Ocean's 14 out of respect for Bernie Mac

And the irony, of course, is that movie WAS made with Steven Soderbergh, George Clooney, Matt Damon, and a host of others. Didn't do very well at the box office, though.

This was oddly prophetic for 4.5 years ago before Clooney and Damon did Monuments Men.

reply

I don't get the "Can't do another one without Bernie Mac" sentiment.

Bernie seemed like a nice guy and I'm sorry he's passed, however his character certainly isn't one the series can't live without or replace. If they can do it without Julia Roberts or, to a lesser extent, Cathrine Zeta Jones, I don't see how they can't replace or simply not have Bernie's character.

I'd love to see an Ocean's 14 that pays homage to the passing of Bernie/His Character right at the beginning and then moves on with a few new actors/actresses to replace the ones who are missing or unable to be in it.

Honestly I'm shocked they got as many back for the second two.

These movies are great fun and it will be kinda sad if they don't do any more.

reply

They got as many back because everybody enjoyed being with each other. It was their "clique",and it's understandable that they wouldn't want to continue without him,and "replacing" him would just be a big middle finger.

IT Arrives.

Super 8.

reply

Well, why do they have to _replace_ him. They can just be one original character short.

reply

I always though that there would have been an Ocean's 14, but the 4th film would have written the death of Frank Catton since Bernie Mac passed away in 2008.

reply

Great points listed a few posts above. It's not like he would *have* to be in anything at this point forward that's an Ocean's franchise film. They could certainly do this without Bernie Mac. Sad he's passed, and like so many Hollywood execs and veterans say: THE SHOW MUST GO ON. There are so many ways to make an Ocean's 14 work.
Heck, if the movie business has put out "The Honeymooners", Weekend at Bernies 2, The Pirate Movie, and "White Chicks" .... then an "Ocean's 14" will look like another Citizen Kane!

"wouldn't that be just milking the cow?"

The new Rambo, Rocky Balboa, Karate Kid (the first time and again now) and countless others have been trotted out...some to a decent level of success!! With the Ocean's franchise, it would make a lot of money and still be a hit --- You just know it! Pitt, Clooney, Damon, Reiner..... no need for any more names - it would be a hit.

If hollyweird can put out a film like "White Chicks" -- an Ocean's 14 movie would be like Citizen Kane.

Oceans 10.5 - a prequel with younger actors

reply

I've always thought it would be cool to see a movie set in the Ocean's universe that didn't necessarily include ALL the characters.

Don't forget, Bernie Mac was barely in O12 due to scheduling conflicts, and it's not like we really missed his lack of screen time in O12.

Plus like the other poster said, they could easily make 013 without Julia Roberts and to a lesser extent CZJ, so again, with Weintraub and CO. behind it, there are many many many ways to do it without Bernie Mac.

Heck -- Saul was almost dead DURING 013, so it's not like they don't know how to handle it. They could make 014 and write in (these writers are getting paid) something about Frank Catton not being there.

People need to stop complaining that "he was always part of the 11, 12, or 13" --- WHO CARES???? THis is hollywood - anything can happen.... and usually does!

Why not just do it without Clooney?

Start over. We know that Danny and Rusty met Reuben when they were 20 years younger or so. Why not go back to then? An 80's Ocean movie with a young Danny and Rusty, the beginning of cool.

Now, who would be the younger Danny and Rusty?

Ocean's First?
Ocean's ???

It Doesn't have to be a number to be cool, good or fun.

It just has to be done right.

reply

Another "Ocean" movie would be terrific, but it shouldn't be 14. They'd need to dump the big ensemble concept and reboot the structure a little. I'd lose Carl Reiner and Ross's dad too. Bring in some fresh pretty faces and have Clooney and old chubby Damon and Pitt be more the scheming bank rollers.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

I think a good sequel would be that they (Rusty and Danny mainly) were running their own casino/hotel and someone was trying to rob them. So the rest of the gang would help prevent this. They could have an up and coming actor play Frank's son and it would be mentioned how they were looking out him professionally after Frank passed away.
I hope they could ick out just one more Ocean's movie.
Ocean's 13 grossed almost 300 million. They need to do another or two....lol

Sorry fellas, I'm out.

reply

They need to do the Ocean's 14 as soon as possible, while Robert De Niro still alives.

reply

What does De Niro have to do with whether they make a sequel or not?

reply

I just thought that the producer doesn't have much choice for the villan after they casted Al Pachino...or does he?

Presumably so he can be the next big guest star.

reply

Probably not without Bernie Mac.

However, I have been thinking about this. Maybe have Chris Rock as his brother, with Frank either being dead or retired. Frank may have been hit by one of Bank's men leading to another revenge heist?

I would love to see another couple of these.

reply

I hope the gang gets back together again. My favorite is actually Ocean's Twelve. Love the European locales and storyline. I really have a lot of fun with these films. There's so many hidden messages, codes etc it takes years to figure them out. Back to Ocean's Twelve - loved The Night Fox storyline and the laser dance (and music) performed by Vince Cassel who demonstrates his dance and Capoeira training - here's a quote: "VC—I was in Brazil when I read the script and people were doing Capoeira everywhere. I had practiced Capoeira when I was younger, so when I met [director] Steven [Soderbergh] in Rome I started to perform some Capoeira moves in the hotel room and he loved it and decided to use it in the movie. The performance went really well on the day, but the next day I couldn’t walk."

I just really appreciate Soderbergh and the entire crew's obvious long-term friendships and transposing it all on screen. Always put these films on for a lift but if I randomly find them on tv - I always, without fail, stop what I'm doing and watch them again. It's just so dang much fun. Makes you feel like you're one of the gang. And we haven't even talked about the fantastic movie in all three films. Encore, I say!

reply

Well said. I did not know that about Mr. Cassel.
