What was the purpose of the factory strike in Mexico?

Was this just filler because they didn't know what to do with Casey Affleck and Scot Cann until the heist scene?

Yes.

I believe the intent was to get the workers on their side so that they'd go along with the plan.

A common theme running through the heists (well at least Eleven and Thirteen) is that unexpected obstacles can and will pop up (like Lenny recognizing Saul and Yen injuring his hand in the first one, and the first drill breaking in this one).

Virgil was simply so burned out by working the long, hard hours in the factory that he complains about it and ends up inspiring a strike, closing the factory, which they need to be open. Then Turk goes to try and stop the strike and ends up joining his brother.

How was it ridiculous? They needed dice to do what they wanted and they needed to pass inspection. The only way to do that is to do what they did.

Actually, I respect your opinion, but I loved it!

I just can't figure out how the added ingredient made the dice roll only certain ways.

I saw it get swirled in pretty thoroughly.

I need to start a thread and ask...I can't suss that out. Maybe it's just part of the movie and I need to just enjoy it...🌞

I don't know how to link to it, but asherp explained it replying in another thread:

"So the lighter is set to thrown the dice to a certain number....each lighter is set differently...the lighter has a sensor watching the dice and then sends out a radio wave causing the metal flakes in the dice to react in a pre determined way by the design of the lighter."

The two brothers had a tendency to get distracted from their assignments in all three movies making things a little more difficult. The factory strike was just this movie's example.
