Disappearing manuscript?

I might have just missed something but what happened to the original manuscript they got from the author?
It is made such a big part of the plot, the search for the last copy of the book. Then they get it...and it plays no role in the rest of the movie, it just disappeares.
Presumably Mo still has it but he makes no attempt to use it in any way. It bothers me if what seems to be vital part of the story is dropped half way through. Is it something which is explained in the book (which I have not read) and just did not make it into the movie or is it just a screenplay glitch?

Yeah, the manuscript thread goes no where. Fraiser needed a copy of Inkheart so that he could try to bring his wife back, and Dustfinger needed it so that he could be read back in (evidently, the internet doesn't exist in this world). But, since the wife was already read out, and Capricorn had a copy lying around, so their search was pointless.
