Mo/Dad?

Why does Meggie keep calling her dad by his first name? She's not Bart Simpson, it's not funny or cute - it's really annoying and makes me want to give her a smack.

I think somebody's had tee many martoonies!

I know - that really bugged me too

reply

Because in the book, she calls him that. Some people just call their parents by their first name.

I know from personal experience, when you grow up and only child and with only one parent, you tend to start calling your parent whatever you hear other people calling him. With out her mom to say, "Go ask Dad" or "Go tell Dad", she probably just started calling him Mo and never stopped.

"Au Revoir, Shoshanna!"

His full name is Mortimor, so at least she's not calling him that. Perhaps part of it can be explained by the abscence of a mother who would have likely corrected her if she called him anything other than dad. Just a thought.
