Why does everyone have an English accent, but Brendan Frazier?

Meggie was raised in Europe but Mo was originally from the US so he does not have an acccent. The entire movie is set in Europe. (Elinor lives in Italy).

Fenoglio lives in Italy, too, and Capricorn village is there as well.

Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly

The mistake was in casting an English girl to play Meggie. Raised by an American father, she would speak like him, not her mother whom she hadn't seen in nine years. They made the same mistake in The Mummy Returns casting an English boy to play Brendan's and Rachel Weisz's son.And then in the Mummy 3, the actor they cast to play the older Alex has an American accent. Why doesn't Helen Mirren's character have an Italian accent if she's lived there for years ?

She lived there, but she hasn't been born there.
It also makes a difference which language you speak in the foreign country.
Some people simply don't adjust..

I'm from Germany, we have a lot of Turkish people here and a lot of them refuse to speak German too and they just keep chatting in their own language.

Really? Turkish people in Germany ? (That's like Polish people in Ireland.) Doesn't it make you curious about why they moved there ?
