Why did they have to feed each other the capsules instead of feeding themselves? This seems to be a requirement to be saved, and this is why the old crazy lady asked for mercy on her soul when she fed herself the capsule. But *why* was it a requirement?

I agree. It was their way of "saving" each other. However, if it was not murder to kill the future soldiers of Satan then killing each other was not murder. Note that the old woman feeds herself the capsule while begging for forgiveness (suicide) and a demon emerges from her corpse.

This movie wasn't really about an apocalypse or anything supernatural but about the dangers of religion and how dangerous it can be depending on who is the leader of them, if you think about it what the crazy cultpeople do in the movie is not any different from terrorists or Charles Mansons followers and simalies...
