Shadow outside shower when karen is bathing.

Spoilers

The director in the commentary said that this was something significant. Evedently because of the cut on her neck that is evident that actually happens later in the movie, this takes after all the other events of the movie. The shadow appears sort of curved and hunched over like one of the demons. But, my take on the movie is that the demons were caused by a drug in the muffins so i don't know what to make of it exept it could be a lingering flashback from the drug or ptsd. The blond haired girl also freaked and saw demons when she left her boyfriend and the freak tied up right after she splashed water in her face. Could there be something in the water? I doubt it but it's the only theory i could come up with.
Anyone?

Its not really lazy. Its unnecessary creatively to define what is happening in the film. All stories are subject to interpretation on behalf of the reader, so if you want to believe it was really demons, then do. If you want to believe it was cultist drugs, then do. Either way you can come out of it happy, and just enjoy the film's progress and action rather than thinking too hard about the movie. Its not supposed to be high art.

Though, despite this argument, the director does take a concrete view from his inclusion of the opening sequence. The girl is alive after the events of the movie, reading a book from fellow survivor Mike. Obviously there was no apocalypse, so there were no demons. It really can't be any clearer, unless the movie was cut back into its chronological progression, which would make for a really boring movie.

Final scene; girl comes out, pets dog, watches TV.
