Anyone else notice Steven Segal has a voice ove in many of the scenes? Anyone know why this had to be done?

Yeah, it was hard not to notice.
shareI bet the reason it had to be dubbed was either steven segal didnt like the way he spoke or the script or whatever could have made him not want to say certain words so maybe they decided to get rid of what he said and dub it. Or maybe he got sick and tired of reshoots and didnt want to speak so they would shoot what they got and edit it and then get a voice over.

The film-makers may be lazy but so is Steven Seagal. Sure, he's working with no-talents, but he does three movies a year and doesn't stick around to do reshoots, additional dialogue recording, etc. This is why he needs a double for random shots of him walking away from the camera!

I had to shut it off 60 minutes in just to come to IMDB to see if my mind was playing tricks on me. I'm not sure if the dubbing here is because Seagal wouldn't or couldn't come back to do "looping"- re-recording of movie lines in a studio-- or as some suggest, a plot change. To my eyes and ears, it looks like the identical line being read- just by somebody else. Either way, it's so disconcerting to the film. And this is a SONY release--it's low budget, but shoddy production like that really ruins it. There are times when "Seagal" is speaking, but because the camera shot doesn't show him actually saying the line, I had to rewind in order to try to follow the story- for which Seagal shares a screenwriting credit. Maybe there was a dispute and Seagal wanted to ruin this film. To be honest, the drug angle thing seems like a separate film from the murder investigation-- or maybe that's just the way it's acted.
And the must disagree with some Seagal bashers here. FOR THEIR TIME, (late 80s/early 90s), the early Seagal films delivered what audiences wanted-- at least for a few years. UNDER SIEGE is a good story elevated to great by the performances of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey. It was a big budget hit that looked great on a big movie screen. William Forsythe ("Anybody seen Ritchie??!!') makes OUT FOR JUSTICE so much fun- great fight scenes too. MARKED FOR DEATH is a blast--especially Hatcher's confrontation with Jimmy Fingers and the Jamaican. Basil Wallace as Screwface is a great villian. HARD TO KILL and ABOVE THE LAW are cool revenge stories with some top-of-his-form Seagal moves. After these five films, it's been all downhill for him. It's not only that's he's fat either. It's more than that. Marlon Brando is the size of a house in THE SCORE, but he's still compelling to watch. The later Seagal movies were confusing and boring. And most powerfully, audience taste changed for these kinds of movies.
It's incredible that Sony would release something that is so distracting. The voice they used in dubbing doesn't even come close to matching Stevens. WTF were they thinking? Someone was asleep at the switch on this one.

I must ammend what I wrote previously. I finally did watch ATTACK FORCE to the end. I initially suspected that lines were simply redubbed word-for-word until I watched again and realized that some dialogue HAS been changed--and some of the female villians lines were changed too. The dubbing for her is Japanese horror-movie bad. There's a premise here that's promising--but presented in a boring way. A few good death/action sequences that fans might enjoy a bit. Otherwise, quite mindless and not too much fun. What you get here is unintended comedy, with some of Seagal's lines starting in his own voice and then suddenly switching to the fake Robert Patrick voice mid-sentence!! There's even one instance where Seagal is on a two-way radio or phone and another character jokes about "always being able to recognize" his voice- a task most viewers may find nearly impossible.

Had to Laugh at the Voice over they used,His is a wheezing whisper and they use a southerner? or Patricks voice? Anyone notice the last Female he killed? He cut her chest with the Blade, Then you see her cut on the opposite side,then its the other side again....
shareI'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed the wrong voice. I have always been a big Segal fan, but low budget or not, having the wrong voice goes way over the line. If SS just had his tonsils out I could cut him some slack. Maybe the movie budget should have allotted more money for voice overs and less for SS's hair plugs. Hey Steven, Daniel Boone called and wants his 'coon skin hat back. I really hate to bash my man like that but sometimes you just have to know when you're done and it's time to spend more time BEHIND the camera.

I've been giving Seagal the benefit of the doubt and sat through bad movie after bad movie for years hoping for the quality & action of his early films would return. This one may be the straw thet broke the camel's back for me though. I had so much trouble staying focused on this flic because of the voice-overs that I actually fell asleep a few times. As mentioned previously, it seemed to me that Seagal's mouth was speaking the same exact words that were dubbed in which I could just not figure out. Apparently, that's not the case according to the other posts but this one was so bad I don't even have the desire to try and watch again.
shareYes, I think this may have even more dubbed lines than SUBMERGED, although they come pretty close. This one sounds like a different guy who sounds even less like Seagal. Maybe the other guy was asking for too much money. ($25 American.)
My favorite Seagal dubbing so far though is in OUT OF REACH where there are voiceovers of his pen pal letters. The guy who is supposed to be him sounds so ridiculous it makes me laugh just thinking about it. "I hope you enjoyed the Native American bracelet I sent you for your birthday." Man that is good stuff.
Personally this one was weird enough that I enjoyed it a little more than SHADOW MAN, but it is definitely in the lower rung. Recommended for serious Seagalogists only.
I don't know about you people, but I've come to love the new Steven Seagal crap-fests. My friends and I get seriously amped up whenever a new one hits the shelves... and that's about every three months!
I admit it's kind of painful to hear the aweful voice overs and to witness the obvious stunt doubling, but it's kind of like a car wreck: it's so awful you can't take your eyes off it.
Attack Force's plot is so retarded, with "action" scenes so clumsy and boring they border on comedy, that it now stands as Seagal's trophy of suck.
Belly of the Beast was a pretty good flick and Steven appeared to actually care about the film. In the end though it was a disappointing outing because that level of mediocre-yet-watchable quality didn't carry over to his following projects.
I love Attack Force because you know what you're getting into before hand, and it delivers what you expect to an extraordinary level.
Bring on Attack Force 2!

What I dont understand is it said in the credits that segal himself produced this movie, so if hes putting his own money into it surely hed wanna make money back by making a decent movie?

I must admit that the dubbing in Attack Force was so annoying and ridiculous that it really does take away any minor enjoyment one might have at watching a Seagal film. The voice overs do not even remotely try to sound like Seagal,which is the most pitiful thing about it. Out of Reach really started this dubbing mess. It was continued in Submerged. But Attack Force definitely takes the cake. It is such a shame that the companies releasing this garbage,Sony and Columbia TriStar even permit this stuff to happen. Does Seagal himself even care about it? He is quickly losing the few fans he has left with these voice overs. Don't mumble your lines so bad that the producers have to resort to this! Let's see what his next flick holds in store for us.
shareYour exactly right, he is losing the rest of us diehard fans. I was ready to pull the dvd out and smash it after hearing someone else speaking for him. If Seagal worried about his fans or his reputation he would NEVER allow this to happen. All his fault if you ask me.

shareI am/was a huge Seagal fan, but all this dubbing, bad story lines, looking a bit lazy, (Steve, hit the gym once in a while you might feel better) it's to much. I'm having trouble getting through Attack Force, I keep pausing it to wipe the tears of disgust/laughter from my eyes. I did hear he is supposed to get back to what his fans want ( Hard to Kill, Under Siege, Doing his own stunts, etc...) in his new movies coming out. We'll see,,,,,maybe.
shareI'm shocked you all are mad at the voice over aspect... Personally, the voice over is a great addition to the comedy of this film. The best though, is OUT OF REACH - check that movie out for your voice over pleasures. Watch this movie for it's comical aspects and you'll end up a happy Segal fan.
shareI lMAO when this film began. The dubbing/editing in the first five minutes is just horrid, yes, even by low pudget cheese by Seagal standards. I think the opening scenes could have been a little longer, and...at least show classic Seagal arm twists and/or submissions. I admit I liked the DTV 'Into The Sun' a tad bit.
I think it may be a better thing if Seagal closed his mouth now and then (especially if he will be dubbed badly) and...I said it before, I'll say it again. Steven Seagal should grow a beard, trim it. Then either shave his head or give it a nice buzzcut.

OR he should just be a producer of low budget action fare.

shareThere also must be different voices dubbing him because the voice changes between at least 3 different tones plus his own ,this totally destroys the already crappy movie. I think the man should stop and think because he still has some fans left, but the numbers are going down fast with every movie he puts out in this manner. If he doesn`t care why bother producing and writing those flicks ... I got no answer ...anybody?

I disagree. The dulled tones of the looper - IMHO - remained constant.
I am English and live in Berlin, Germany, and for the first 8 minutes of the movie, I seriously thought I had the wrong audio track selected.
I have never heard looping done so hidiously/obviously on an English language feature EVER. Doesn't anyone think - er, Segal, fan movie?? we might just hear the difference ??
Suprisingly, I had waited maybe three weeks or so for the DVD to come back to the Rental Store [there was only one copy] (sic).
I fell asleep at the beginning of the end credits for a couple of hours and got pissed when I woke up 20 minutes before the rental store was due to close: then I legged it. There was no way I was going to pay €1.50 for an extra day ;-((
OT. when it took it back I saw 'lucky sleven' onsale for €9.95. Now that's a movie/classic ;-))

Steven appeared on UK TV chat show last week. It was very suprising how poor his normal voice is. He seemed hardly able to speak and then just a rasp. If I was his doctor, I'd tug him in for a check up quick.
But seriously, I guess his 'good' voice wore out some time ago hence the dubbing. Seems a nice guy though.
i was so disapointed about seagals voice over so i called up swedens representevs for sony and talked to them they couldnt answer my question but they say they come back to me of they havent called or email me next week i call again

The dubbing in this got me so worked up i turned it off after 5 mins and returned it to the rental store. If it was a foreign film i can handle dubbing but not when it was made in the English language.

I know if you sing out of your natural range and force it - your throat suffers bigtime :-( an' it don't come back.

He just toured the UK with his band. I'm suprised he has the time and energy with all the movies. When they interviewed him on TV, he couldn't really speak and yet when he did the gig afterwards he sang ok. I used to watch his early movies with my dad before he died and they gave us a lot of fun. great stuff for its time. The trick is knowing when its time to say 'enough'.
