Audience confidentiality

When a contestant on this (and other game shows) wins a jackpot, they usually don't actually get the money until the episode airs as an incentive to keep quiet about the results. Some even face big penalties.

But what keeps the audience members from going to the media when somebody wins the $1 million prize?

Interesting question. Audience may be asked not to blab, maybe sign nondisclosure as a condition of admission, making a civil contract they could be sued for violating. Media may have a 'spoilers' policy like IMDB does and wouldn't take the story even if they got it, but we've got some media with negative ethics that would anyway.
