Could not stop crying

my sister has been suffering from anorexia for a year. She spent 6 months (not 6 weeks like some of these woman) in a treatment facility...this documentary was my life watching her. The tiny bites, the trying to hide, the crying. She is still not better, far from it. Shes 17, and watching this really made me so sad to think that she might still be living with this when she is 30. Anyways, i thought it was incredible and completely real. Nothing they said or did was exaggerated in any way. That is the life of someone with an ED in a clinic.

and could care less about most of the world.

So...are you saying you do care then...

Because if not, then I believe you mean, you couldn't care less...

he is what's known as a "board troll", he simply likes to get a rise out of people on message boards.

If you dont feed the vermin they'll go away eventually...ignore him :)

No I don't not care. I must have schooled you pretty good if we are reaching for spelling and grammer typos.

HA! You schooled me??? HA, HA, HA! Now that's truly the funniest thing you've said on here...you aren't schooling ANYBODY! And by the way, it's grammar.

I'm quite secure. I simply find this amusing. I also like to give back to the community through education.

I find this extremely hilarious considering you seem pretty uneducated to me...

But yep, I agree with the others. You're a troll. So I'm done.

Holding down your meal has nothing to do with having an education.

reply

My condolences. I don't know what to say.

reply

*Hugs* I'm sorry that you are going through this. We really saw from the documentary how eating disorders don't just affect the person suffering but also the family members and even friends. Perhaps you and your family can go into counseling to be able to deal with the emotional effects and toll that it has taken on all of you.

I remember being in high school and how pressuring it felt to try ;) to look thin and those that were thin seeming to get acknowledged. It must be especially difficult with someone who has an eating disorder who is still in high school and where it can be such a superficial environment. Do you know if she's seen the documentary?

reply

she didn't want to watch the documentary..it just reminded her of when she was in treatment and thats upsetting but we've all seen it..my mom, dad, and myself....we're ALL in recovery right now.

reply

Good luck. Don't give up. There is always hope. She can recover and hopefully she will. It will be very, very difficult for her to do so and it might take her a long time. Just give her support when you can. And do everything you can do to lead a happy life for yourself. It might inspire her.

Sorry. Don't mean to sound like a therapist :-)

hahahahaha!!! I somehow knew that you would reply to my message but I hoped that you wouldn't. Oh, well. It's interesting that a lot of people on these boards have time for you and your crap. Please kill yourself. I really do wish that you would. I don't have time for your crap. You are a useless someone who claims to have a great life and blah, blah, but you're a message board troll. People who are genuinely happy with themselves and happy with their life don't come to Internet message boards to insult and demean others who are suffering. You're pathetic. Troll.

I implore everyone on this board to press the "Ignore" button on the above jackass if you haven't already.

Well Matthews it is an actual disorder. It starts simply enough by wanting to lose weight but then some actually damage the part of the brain that gives perception and they can't see what they are doing. Much in the same way you can't see how transparent you are.

reply

It's actually closely related to body dismorphic disorder: seeing your body as something else and it's not what you actually see. An ED girl can look in the mirror...see a fat girl...and she's not. Like setbro says...the ED damages the part of your brain that sees what you really look like gets screwed up...your perception gets messed up. And Body Dismorphic Disorder is a disorder..hence..what it's called

Actually some mental illnesses like bi polar disorders and schizophrenia and many mental illnesses are a chemical imbalance in the brain and not caused by the patient of their own will and yes ED is one of those disorders. If you could take a CAT scan of mental patients brain and take one of your own you would see a vast difference in the patients brain and your own. So no...mental illness is not about keeping it together and things like that it's about actual imbalance in the brain...not about anybody being anything...

And if someone comes on here and says it for amusement...go to an amusement park...this is a message board...not a circus

If this matthews entity truly believes what he/she/it throws out onto these boards then he/she/it is far more warped than you could ever dream of being in your worst nightmare. Don't open up to he/she/it in the hopes of "enlightening" the brute. You're casting a pearl before swine.

Are you getting professional help for your ED? If you're not then you need to be. I'm sorry you're going through it. I totally understand what it feels like when the thought "If you are not pretty then you are worthless" goes through your mind. It sucks. If you'd like to talk about it sometime with a stranger like me whom you wouldn’t feel compelled to lie to about your ED with then I would be willing to exchange e-mails with you. If that sounds too weird that's O.K., too. But the offer stands. Regardless, good luck to you.

reply

Mathews sounds like one of those people who thinks you can snap out of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Odds are either he or one of his family members will suffer from mental illness at some point. Maybe he'll change his tune then.

Just put him on ignore...

If you want him to 'go away' without him actually going away, (because unfortunately he won't...) put him onignore...

I did and it's so peaceful to not have those ugly, heartless responses looking you in the face!

Ciao,

Peace & Love,

Jen

i wanted to see what people thought of this movie. i was shocked at how people thought this was a cry for attention. one of my friends has an ED. she has been suffering from one since her father told her she was fat. it is a real disease and it makes me extremely sad to see that people think it isnt. its people that think EDs arent real thats makes them worse. i think it is shameful to say that EDs arent real. unfortunatly you cant just start to eat. nothing looks good. food to people with EDs is a sign of being weak and will only make their lives harder. i think that the whole thing is sad and i wish a lot of luck to anyone who has an ED and i hope that they can overcome it.
