Nobody got better!
They all either got kicked out or relapsed immediately after leaving. It was one of the saddest realities I've ever seen. but really, This must be one of the hardest things to get over.

its because renfrew is a horrible treatment facility. they do not TREAT the clients. all they do is prolong the process of these girls dying inside. renfrew is a the perfect example of psychiatric care that is a holding place. thinking that if you can stop a girl from purging for 3 wks shes cured. renfrew is a crock. no real therapy is done there. there are better facilities around the country that actually give a damn about the patients. lauren greenfield really should have chosen a better place to document. renfrew should be ashamed.
shareI agree, I felt like all the nurses and doctors were doing was turning the girls on one another and treating it like some reality tv show where you would get voted off if you did a few wrong things.
I mean Polly got kicked out because she got a tattoo? Give me a break! Sure, she was misbehaving, but there were obviously more important, life threatening issues with her that should have been considered before making her feel like crap and cutting her off from treatment. I think they knocked down her confidence and sent her home feeling terrible, I would never have wanted to send someone home in that state. Especially considering she was doing so well before then.
I also think it's sad that they were limited so much by their insurance policies. The last shot of Brittney shows her in a horribly emotional state, and it seemed clear her mother had a lot to do with her eating disorder...I'd feel bad sending her home hearing her near-suicidal emotions.
I wish someone would document a clinic that did show some progress and positive recovery with some of the girls....
<I mean Polly got kicked out because she got a tattoo?>
I thought she got kicked out for lying to the staff about the purpose of the outing when she and Shelly went out got tattoos. In the car on the way to town, she seemed to think it was a big joke how she had told the staff they were going to a bookstore.
God save Donald Duck, vaudeville and variety
Polly did not get kicked out for getting a tattoo. What movie were you watching? After breaking several rules, she ultimately got kicked out for illegally giving Shelly prescriptions drugs. She is lucky she wasn't turned over to the police for criminal charges in doing that. I would consider that a fairly serious infraction.
shareWhy do you have such a stick up your ass about Renfrew? What are you even talking about? You say that a patient will be considered "cured" after not purging for 3 weeks; so not true. This is how the system works, hon, and people who can't afford treatment on their own have to rely on insurance. If you want to blame the insurance companies go ahead, but this is how the system works and there's not much Renfrew can do other than just give free treatment (which just isn't possible). You say that no real therapy is done there; I'm a graduate student in psychology and all we talk about is different forms of therapies. Several of them (EMPIRICALLY TESTED AND CORROBORATED THERAPIES) were represented in this film. You say that there are better facilities, well - fair enough. Name some of them and your reasons why. But continuing to blame Renfrew for being terrible without any justifiable evidence is a bit silly.
shareWell, even though most of the girls are still struggling .. they are SO much better off now then they were before Renfrew ! Without Renfrew, they would probably have died already. At the beginning of the film, it said that when Brittany arrive, she had a low heart rate, kidney failure, and loss of hair. She would have died a long time ago. And Polly probably would have committed suicide a long time ago also ! I have Brittany on Myspace and she says that she is doing so much better than what she was when she appeared in Thin. And shelly was on myspace, but she got off it to focus on her eating disorder and getting well. I also have Polly and she says that she is doing amazing. But Alisa is doing the best. She returned to Renfrew and says that she is the best that she has ever been. She is also at a healthy weight too .. There are pictures of her at Shelly's wedding. She looks amazing and so healthy : )
So all in all .. they may not be fully recovered, but Renfrew saved their lives.. And I was talking to shelly once and she said, i quote " Renfrew saved my life, it was the most helpful place I have been too. " I am going to Renfrew soon, and I only hope that it can save my life as well : )
Take Care Loves, XOXO
I am so glad to hear that Brittany, Shelley and Alisa are so much more healthy now. It is so sad to find out that Polly has passed on though perhaps she was helped by the program in various ways. I thought that Shelley's therapist at Renfrew was just brilliant, and I would like for him to be mine :) I don't have anorexia or bulimia but compulsively eat. I would love to have the myspace pages of the women from the documentary, if anyone has them on hand. Thanks!
shareIt's not necassarily renfew that is bad at treatment more ED's are really hard to recover from and take a LONG time! I have attempted recovery twice and still am no where near recovering. Very few people recover especially straight away it takes years and intensive treatment to get better.
I read that Shelley is doing better which is really good.
