I'm curious about the legality of sending a minor with a diagnosed eating disorder back home to her mother, who she blatantly says encourages disordered habits. I work in health care and we are required to report it if we feel any minor is in danger in his or her home. How could these doctors and staff members listen to that and then send her off without at least initiating an investigation?!

Because insurance ran out and since she couldn't afford to pay anymore, they sent her home. Plus, it's different with mental illnesses (I'm not saying I agree that it should be), but it is. Triggering someone to engage, or engaging with them in an eating disorder isn't considered illegal or abusive. It's obviously not healthy, but nothing could really be done other than suggesting or requiring therapy or treatment.
