What is with the rule against tattoos?

Why did they forbid them from getting tattoos?

I understand not allowing them access to medication cause there are ways to abuse meds to lose weight- but surely body ink isn't in any way related to anorexia or bulimia. Getting a tattoo neither helps nor hurts an eating disorder, to the best of my knowledge.

Why did they go so psychotic over it? :S

a couple reasons:
-it's changing your body. for some people its a way of creating a facade and not accepting yourself as you are, which is a huge part of eating disorder recovery
-some people are addicted to tattos. fighting addiction of any sort is the main goal
- many people cut or burn themselves, its very hard to succesfully do that in treatment. tattoos can be a way of inflicting pain.

obviously this doesn't apply to everyone who goes to treatment, but they have to have the same rules for everyone

I never thought of those reasons. I thought that the tattoos might become infected and that it really wasn't the nurses' job to have to deal with any more than they already had on their hands.

Also, some diseases can be transmitted by nonsterile equipment.
