I get what people are saying about this movie being about honesty and relationships. But I feel like this movie would have made a bigger impact with the moral it was implying, if the "secret" wasn't something complegely redicoulous.

I disagree completely. If it was something that could "happen to the best of us," then it would have been no big deal when she admitted it, and the movie would have been completely uninteresting.

The fact that it's something HUGE to which virtually nobody could relate, made the honesty factor the REAL DEAL, unlike Mom's affairs with famous musical artists, which while they are significant, aren't nearly as shocking.

I kind of agree. It would have worked a lot better if it was something that was still shocking but not quite as disgusting. Such as say she met this guy on Craigslist casual encounters and that guy brings her to stranger's house for a 3-way and she and the second guy become boyfriend/girlfriend and have a relationship prior to her meeting John. Or say she spent her entire college years as a married man's mistress.

Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you. Not anymore.

How is any of that shocking? I'm pretty sure John knew she wasn't a virgin, and the movie isn't set in an ultra-conservative Amish town in the 1830s, so I don't see why her sleeping with 'a married man' would bother him at all. If the secret weren't something commonly regarded as 'disgusting' there would be no point in her withholding it from John.
Considering how outrageous her action would have to be to make the story work and cause the response it does in everyone she knows, blowing a dog is probably the least messed up thing she could have done.

Fellating a dog was probably the most acceptable of all "unacceptable" things a person could go.

okay her secret just sealed the deal that i am not wasting my time watching this movie- its disgusting. some ppl in hollywood have some twisted *beep* in their head and this plot/story is one of them...ppl on this board are even debating her actions- there should be no debate, the girl is sick in her head period. her fiance should run for the hills and never look back.
